Conference Internships

AFLV conference interns are the high-energy, change-enabling leaders who help make AFLV West and AFLV Central happen.

2019 AFLV Central Interns

Interning for an AFLV Conference

AFLV selects 30 undergraduate and graduate student interns to serve as conference interns. Our interns provide on-site support to professional staff members and volunteers who implement each event, including:

  • Providing exemplary customer service to all attendees: students, professionals, exhibitors, presenters, and inter/national fraternity/sorority representatives
  • Serve on conference standards staff (graduate students only), which includes late-night "rounds."
  • Preparing conference registration packets
  • Working on-site check-in
  • Supporting banquet and meal logistics
  • Posting and removing signage
  • Setting up and tearing down audio-visual equipment.
  • Assisting with special events, silent auction, awards, and exhibitors.
  • Greeting and directing conference attendees.
  • Introducing speakers and make announcements to all conference attendees.
  • Serving on conference speaker review committee (select interns).

Key Skills

We're looking for fraternity/sorority leaders who:

  • take initiative
  • take direction
  • work well in a team
  • communicate clearly
  • excel in customer service
  • get stuff done

Interns’ Development

Past AFLV conference interns cite their experience as invaluable personal and professional development. Through their AFLV internship, many interns have:

  • met their professional mentors
  • discovered a career path they had not considered before
  • made lifelong friends with similar, goal-driven interns

More tangible benefits include:

  • hands-on experience with conference planning, marketing, management, and execution
  • connecting with fraternity/sorority leaders from across the country
  • meeting inter/national headquarters staff, national officers and campus-based professionals

Conference interns will uphold the highest expectations to behave in a professional manner because they represent AFLV. Any inappropriate behavior may result in the intern’s termination with all encumbered expenses repaid to AFLV. AFLV will contact the terminated intern’s institution and organizational headquarters.

AFLV will cover:

  • your registration fee
  • the cost of your shared hotel room during training and the conference
  • all meals from the night of your arrival through Sunday afternoon (except Friday’s dinner)

Travel costs to and from the conference are the intern's responsibility.

Application & Selection

We give preference to:

  • Undergraduate students who are currently active in a leadership role within their fraternity/sorority community and are enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student
  • Graduate students with previous fraternity/sorority experience who are enrolled in a graduate program in any field of study

Thank you for your interest in AFLV’s 2021 Conference Intern Program! Direct questions about the program to Jen McDaniel.

Applications will open fall 2020.
