IFC Academy

Where will IFC Academy be held?

IFC Academy will be in Indianapolis as part of AFLV Central 2020, Jan. 30–Feb. 2. Most programming will be at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, so we recommend IFC Academy participants reserve accommodations at IMD.

What is IFC Academy designed to do?

IFC Academy provides IFC officers with tools and training to be effective in their specific roles, build cohesiveness as a team and understand their responsibility in the peer governance of their fraternity community. The North American Interfraternity Conference developed this curriculum.

IFC Academy is about:

  • Building relationships with members of your council.
  • Evaluating your personal, community and fraternity experience.
  • Educating officers on the most up-to-date IFC knowledge, including the IFC Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Defining expectations for your officer role and resources available to support your success.
  • Collaborating with other attendees from your council to create opportunities to work together to advance your community.

Specifically, the NIC will focus on two main areas:

  1. helping IFC officers understand their council’s purpose
  2. officer track programming— nuts and bolts training of how to be effective in the job.

When will IFC Academy be held?

The program will take place as a part of AFLV Central during educational session blocks.

What officer tracks will be provided at IFC Academy?

  • President
  • PRIME 2.0 (an advanced president’s track only for those who attended PRIME)
  • Internal Operations (Secretary/Treasurer)
  • Harm Prevention/Health and Safety
  • Judicial
  • Programming
  • Recruitment
  • Public Relations

What about the other council officers I bring to the conference?

The NIC is the only trade association offering specialized training this year. AFLV Central has programming for all councils as part of regular conference programming.

Will IFC Academy attendees still attend major keynotes and the affiliation luncheon with everyone else?

Yes. The NIC designed the curriculum around all major keynotes at the conference and the affiliation luncheon. We will not have programming into Friday evening so IFC Academy attendees can take part in their delegation’s dinner plans.

Can IFC Academy participants attend other breakout sessions?

We expect participants to be present during all IFC Academy sessions. With IFC Academy running during all AFLV Central breakout sessions, participants should not plan to attend other breakout sessions. IFC Academy participants should plan to attend programming outside of the IFC Academy schedule.

Our IFC wants to attend. How do we register?

You can register for IFC Academy as part of AFLV Central registration.

How much does IFC Academy cost?

The cost will be an additional $112/person over the AFLV Central conference registration fee, which covers all program materials for the IFC Academy.

What is the policy on refunds, cancellations, inclement weather, etc.?

Please refer to the AFLV policy on the registration page.

If we can't fill every spot, can we send someone else on IFC in their place?

Yes. We ask that you send a representative from your delegation in place of the council member who cannot attend. Ideally, this should be an individual in a role related to the track he will attend. If that is not possible, alternates can be any council officer who is an interested and willing participant. The curriculum will be designed for that specific officer during the track programming portion of the program. It is less helpful and more distracting to have an uninterested participant who feels they are forced to attend. We would ask that you coach this participant on why they are attending and ask them to take notes so that the council officer would be able to understand the information even if they weren’t in attendance.

Can we still participate if we don't fill every council officer spot?

Yes

Can we send more than eight people to IFC Academy?

IFCs can send as many officers as they choose. The NIC offers the officer tracks listed above.

I’m the fraternity/sorority advisor. Can I attend as well?

Yes. You are welcome to attend one of the officer training tracks, but it is not required. The NIC has not created content specific to your role.
