Vice President Joe Biden to Address 3,000+ Fraternity/Sorority Students at AFLV Central

FORT COLLINS, COLO. – The Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV) is honored to announce The Honorable Joseph R. Biden, Jr., the 47th Vice President of the United States, will speak at AFLV Central 2018 (#AFLVCentral), which includes the National Black Greek Leadership Conference. Vice President Biden will address more than 3,000 fraternity/sorority leaders from close to 250 campuses on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, IN.

Vice President Biden will engage conference attendees in a frank conversation about sexual assault on college campuses and the ongoing prevention work being done through the It’s On Us campaign, which he helped launch in 2014 while serving as Vice President. He continues to lead the movement to end sexual violence through continued advocacy for the It’s On Us campaign, and through his work at the Biden Foundation.

The It’s On Us campaign challenges college campus communities to step up and make a pledge to end sexual violence on campus. The campaign combines innovative creative content and grassroots organizing techniques to spark action on a national and local level. AFLV is one of 12 founding organizations of the It’s On Us Greek Leadership Council launched in 2017.

“Everyone has a moral obligation to step up and show leadership in working to end sexual violence—especially men,” said Vice President Biden. “This obligation doesn’t start and end at a college party or in the workplace: It is founded on the fundamental need to change the culture that allows sexual assault to exist. I applaud the leadership of AFLV members in standing up and pursuing real change in their communities. This willingness to learn and grow is critical to changing the culture, and I look forward to engaging these young leaders in deeper discussion next month at AFLV Central.”

Ryan O’Rourke, Executive Director of AFLV, added, “The work that Vice President Biden, It’s On Us, and other important organizations have been doing has thankfully elevated the dialogue about sexual assault on campuses and created opportunities for student leaders to be part of the solution. We hope that Vice President Biden coming to AFLV Central can be a similar catalyst for fraternity and sorority members to continue working to be leaders on this issue, both locally and nationally.”

AFLV Central, including the National Black Greek Leadership Conference, is one the largest gatherings of interfraternal fraternity and sorority members in the country. The conference experience provides more than 250 educational offerings on a wide-array of topics, including leadership development and the prevention of high-risk behaviors.
