AFLV Central Call for Programs

 

Educational sessions are the hallmark of our conference educational experience. As a program presenter, you have the opportunity to share your expertise, make connections, and positively impact the students and professionals in attendance, while working toward a safer, more positive fraternity & sorority experience.

 

If you are interested in submitting a program proposal for AFLV Central, which includes both the National Black Greek Leadership Conference (NBGLC) and intentional programming for cultural Greeks and members of our LGBTQA community, please review the information below. Note, this opportunity is open to both professionals and students!

 

 

AFLV Central Experience Overview

STOP! Before you do anything, please familiarize yourself with why AFLV exists.

 

The purpose of our conferences is to provide undergraduate fraternity/sorority leaders with a premier leadership development experience with an emphasis in:

  • Increase students’ confidence in their own ability to take leadership-based action within their chapters, councils, and communities.
  • Increase students’ confidence in their own ability to make positive changes in their chapters, councils, and/or communities.
  • Promote positive attitudes related to interfraternalism and collaborative interfraternal work.
  • Decrease students’ tolerance for unsafe and illegal behaviors within their chapters and communities (i.e. hazing, sexual violence, alcohol abuse, drug misuse/abuse).
  • Increase students’ willingness to hold themselves and their brothers/sisters/siblings accountable for behaviors that run counter to espoused fraternal values.
  • Increase students’ willingness to develop themselves and their brothers/sisters/siblings to exhibit behavior consistent with espoused fraternal values.
  • Increase students’ openness to diversity and a commitment to social justice within their fraternity/sorority communities.
  • Increase students’ confidence in their own ability to positively impact the world (locally, nationally, globally).

 

Audience/Topics

The typical conference attendee is a sophomore/junior fraternity/sorority leader who holds one or more leadership positions on campus. These student leaders are also likely to hold positions in student government, volunteer organizations, and other campus-wide programming boards. Almost all delegates hold membership in and serve as an officer of the Interfraternity, Panhellenic, National Pan-Hellenic, Latino, Asian Greek, or Multicultural Greek council. In addition, inter/national officers, headquarters staff, and other members of fraternal organizations are regular attendees along with advising professionals and volunteers who are influential leaders in the fraternity/sorority community.

 

More specifically, this includes:

  • Chapter Officers

  • Students who don’t hold leadership positions
  • Male, female, transgender, genderqueer, gender non-binary, gender non-conforming, or agender students
  • NPHC (historically African-American) fraternity/sorority students
  • Latino/a fraternity/sorority students

  • Asian Pacific Islander Desi American fraternity/sorority students
  • LGBTQA fraternity/sorority students

Submission Instructions

1. Review the Call for Programs Submission Guide before submitting a program proposal.

 

2. Submit your Call for Programs proposals by using the Call for Programs Online Submission Form.

 

 

Educational Session Information

The various blocks of educational sessions will allow delegates to experience a broader spectrum of programming. As you plan your program submission, please note we are now shifting to 75 minute long sessions with two 60 minute educational blocks. You will be able to select your preferred time allotment on the Call for Programs Submission Form.

 

 

Presenter Information & Expectations

  • Read the Call for Programs Submission Guide.

  • Provide an educational experience that is inclusive of all attendees and governing councils unless explicitly explained in the programming summary.

  • Register as an attendee(s) at the selected 2019 conference.

  • Share all AFLV communication with co-presenters (if applicable).

  • Acknowledge no schedule or program changes will be made after October 30, 2018.

  • If requesting an LCD projector, understanding that the presentation team will be responsible for providing its own laptop and any adapter required to connect via VGA

  • Undertake all aspects associated with printing session handouts (creation, printing, distributing, etc.). AFLV does not provide on-site copying for presenters. If you need to print, please utilize the FedEx store on-site or other printing services. 

  • Manage the evaluation process during your session. AFLV will provide you with everything you need.

  • Limit booking information to the last 5 minutes of my program (if applicable).

  • Presenters will receive a $100 discount on their conference registration fees if they are selected and present three (3) or more educational sessions.
