Getting Started
Charter Petition/Registration
So you've decided that you would like to charter a chapter of the Fraternal Values Society on your campus? The first step is to complete the Charter Registration process through our online portal. This is an easy process that involves providing a little information about your institution. The Charter fee is $500. This is a one-time fee that includes all of your initial ritual equipment, a set of officer pins, support materials, and your first year's subscription fee. This online Charter Petition/Registration is available here . Payment may be made by either credit card or check.
Chapter Letter Designations
The chapters of the Fraternal Values Society will be designated in alpha order utilizing the Greek alphabet (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc). At such time when single letter designations are assigned, we will move into double letter designations (Alpha Alpha, Alpha Beta, etc). Alpha is reserved for Miami of Ohio (see the History of the Fraternal Values Society). All other chapters will be assigned in the order in which they are received utilizing our time and date stamped online registration process.
Identifying the Chartering Class
After the Charter Petition/Registration has been completed, a sample application will be provided to use for individual member selection. This sample may be adopted in full, or individual questions may be added by the local campus. After a chapter has established members, the membership will conduct the membership recruitment and selection process. The Chartering Class is unique in that there is not a membership to conduct selection. There are three options available:
a. The campus fraternity/sorority professional identifies a small committee (5-7) students who can serve as the driving force behind this initiative. They will serve as the recruitment and selection committee with the input and participation of the campus fraternity/sorority professional. These students will also be included in the chartering class.
b. The campus fraternity/sorority professional identifies a small committee (5-7) of campus faculty and staff who may serve as the selection committee. Recruitment efforts would fall on the campus fraternity/sorority staff. It is possible (but not necessary) to initiate this faculty/staff selection committee as honorary members with the chartering class.
c. The campus fraternity/sorority staff serves as both the recruitment and selection team to identify the initial chartering class.
Please note: the temptation to simply have council officers serve in the capacity of the recruitment and selection team is strongly discouraged. The Fraternal Values Society should not be seen as an automatic membership by nature of holding office. It is intended only for those who are able to forward and enhance the values conversation, it should not be assumed that all officers have the capacity to do so.
The Charter Ceremony
Complete instructions will be provided with the ritual equipment that is provided after the Charter Petition/Registration is submitted. Individuals must submit their initiation fee ($50 per initiate one-time fee) payment before initiation into the Fraternal Values Society may occur.
