The educational programming at the National House Directors Conference is the foundation of the entire experience. Conference faculty work hard to present the latest information available to support this unique industry.
Presenters include a deliberate combination of nationally recognized authorities in higher education and within the fraternal field as well as local experts on topical conversations and current issues.
Faculty present on topics ranging from those that impact the House Director in day to day performance as well as those that will stretch the minds of the participants. Our goal is to provide understanding and knowledge to help House Directors support the varied constituents with whom they regularly work. Ultimately, we want participants to gain skills to enhance their development and overall performance.
A more detailed schedule will be posted in late spring as we get closer to the event. For planning purposes, please review the pre and post-conference trip details as well as the following schedule:
CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
The conference opening session begins Thursday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. The annual welcome dinner will follow educational sessions and the opening keynote speaker. The dinner will be held in a private dining room aboard the historic Queen Mary anchored in the Long Beach Bay, a short distance from the Maya Hotel. There will be time for a brief tour of the magnificent ship before dinner.
All of the educational programs on Thursday and Friday are especially designed for house directors and house corporation officers Friday morning the educational sessions will give priority to risk management and legal issues. In the afternoon, participants and guests will enjoy lunch and a scenic tour of the lovely city of Long Beach. The tour will include a drive along the scenic Pacific Highway, a view of the world’s largest mural (according to the Guinness Book of Records), the “Planet Ocean” along the exterior wall of the drum-shaped Arena. The tour will then stop at the famous Belmont Shores area. Belmont Shores is about a mile full of art galleries, restaurants and specialty shops. Participants may want to enjoy wine tastings arranged in several of the shops.
Saturday, participants will be divided into two groups. There will be a full day of programming focused especially for House Directors or for House Corporation Officers.
Sunday, all participants will share programming on strategic planning and goal implementation. This is an important working session that will be a benefit to the participant throughout the coming year.
The site of the 2013 conference location will be announced just before the Closing Brunch. The conference will end just before noon.
First Timers Orientation
First timers are invited to attend an orientation session on Thursday, June 21st from noon to 1:30 pm. Please be aware that this is during the same time as the Pre-Conference Whale & Dolphin Trip. The session is optional and participants should feel free to participate in the Pre-Conference trip if desired. The session will provide attendees with the knowledge and background needed to be successful and fully participate in the conference. The House Director Manual and other resources will be reviewed. There is no charge for the session, but participants are asked to make reservations during the registration process.
