Scholarships

We are pleased to announce the S. Shelley Sutherland Scholarship. In honor of Shelley Sutherland, longtime leader and innovator in the fraternal community, these scholarships are specifically designated for those participating in the National House Director's Conference.

About Shelley

A founding member of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA), Shelley has served the fraternal community from the beginning. She served AFA as the Director of Conferences and Meetings, Secretary/Treasurer, and President. Shelley contributed to the founding of the Mid-American Panhellenic Council Association (MAPCA) and provided leadership to the organization through its merger with the Mid-American Interfraternity Council Association (MIFCA) eventually becoming the Associate Executive Director of the Mid-American Greek Council Association (MGCA). Shelley later became Executive Director of the Western Regional Greek Association (WRGA) and when the WRGA and MGCA consolidated to become the Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV), she took on the role of Associate Executive Director. A former fraternity/sorority advisor at Indiana State University and the University of Oregon, Shelley has been honored for her success, contribution, and professionalism in many ways including her  receipt of an AFA Distinguished Service Award in both 1986 and 1996 and the Robert H. Shaffer Award in 1999. She is the namesake for the Sutherland Award, the highest honor for collegiate Panhellenic Councils awarded by AFLV.
