In order to provide member councils the best assessment data and to compare "apples to apples" for recognition purposes, AFLV divides member councils into the divisions based on type of council and number of member chapters. Councils that submit the Awards & Assessment Applications each year will receive recognition within their designated division and an assessment report that shows how their achievement compares to others in their division.
The Divisions
Greek Councils
- All councils are in one division, regardless of number of member chapters
This division is for campuses that have only one governing council for all fraternities and sororities, regardless of type of organization. Most often, these are councils at smaller institutions with few chapters where men's and women's organizations are under the same umbrella.
Interfraternity Councils
- Division I: 2-6 chapters
- Division II: 7-12 chapters
- Division III: 13-20 chapters
- Division IV: 21+ chapters
National Pan-Hellenic Councils
- All councils are in one division, regardless of number of member chapters
Multicultural/Unified Greek Councils
- All councils are in one division, regardless of number of member chapters
Panhellenic Councils
- Division I: 2-4 chapters
- Division II: 5-7 chapters
- Division III: 8-12 chapters
- Division IV: 13+ chapters
